The Williams family legacy lives on in Sam Williams, the 22-year-old son of Hank Williams Jr. and grandson of country legend Hank Sr. And now he’s stepping into the spotlight, releasing the mystical “Gemini” as a standalone single.

Co-written by Williams with singer-songwriter Jaida Dreyer, the spaced out country dirge works as an introduction to what Williams is all about — and how he stands apart from his famous bloodline. With a dark, foreboding arrangement and Williams’ crackling voice seeming to rise from another spiritual plane, the otherworldly track highlights the inner push and pull common in Geminis like him.

“Each word of ‘Gemini’ is my truth straight from my heart,” Williams explains. “We’re highly motivated people, yet we walk a fine line between light and dark. I know I’m capable, but I also know I can burn out. It’s important to me that this song is my first release after taking the last year reflecting on life changes and focusing on my writing. ‘Gemini’ is authentically different – just like me.”

Born in Nashville and raised west of the city in Paris, Tennessee, Williams is certainly not the first of his generation to join the family business. Half sister Holly Williams has released a handful of albums and singles with a sophisticated Americana-country bent, while half brother Hank III has long been a pioneering force in the fusion of hard country and heavy metal.

For his part, the newest Williams to enter the scene has gained plenty of early attention — and it’s not just because of his famous name. After releasing his country-blues debut “Darkwater” in 2016 and the honky tonk ballad “The Lost Grandchild’s Plea” in 2018, CMT has called him an “Indie You Need to Know,” and he continues to write with some of Music City’s most celebrated tunesmiths.
