The Corporate Work Study program aims to break down socioeconomic and cultural barriers to support students' future success. CWS is implemented inside all Cristo Rey high schools. The program makes sure to place every student in a professional job (on-site, remote, or hybrid) once a week every school month for four years. Not only are students benefiting from learning skills to use outside and inside school, but they are also earning a significant portion of their private education cost in return for their work. Corporate Partners pay a contracted fee to the schools for the students’ college preparatory education.
The way it works is students are asked about their interests prior to job placements, students are then given workplace training ensuring smooth sailing when they start work, and lastly, students are informed of their job placements shortly before they begin work after the school year starts. Ms. Aiyana Ashley, Director of CWS Operations, summarized: “CWS benefits students by giving them access and experience in different fields at a younger age than most students their age. This program allows students to network and make informed decisions about college, careers, and beyond.”
