On January 31st evening, the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in Washington was thrilled to welcome two internationally renowned French #scientists who are leaders in a booming branch of astrophysics, Multimessenger Astronomy : - Kumiko Kotera, deputy director of Institut d'astrophysique de Paris of CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique, currently a visiting scientist at Penn State University as a laureate of the The Fulbright Program. and leader of the GRAND international collaboration (Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection) - Sylvain Guiriec, Associate Professor of Astrophysics at the Department of Physics of the The George Washington University, and Astrophysics Researcher at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He is Deputy investigator of the Gamow Explorer mission dedicated to the study of Gamma Ray Bursts. Kumiko and Sylvain introduced us to their groundbreaking research, and also to the diplomatic and political challenges of such large-scale #international #collaborations. The event was attended by members of the France Science Network (https://lnkd.in/dpges5MJ) as well as science diplomats from Washington-based embassies and from the US Federal Government.
