Following a national search, Shontell L. Blake, Ed.D, has been selected as the inaugural Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs. Her appointment will begin on Jan. 9, 2023.
A distinguished researcher and scholar, Dr. Blake has led equity and innovation programs in various roles within several post-secondary institutions. Her 20-year career in higher education spans student support, student services, and enrollment management.
Dr. Blake’s most recent role as Associate Dean for Admissions at Dallas College, a Hispanic-Serving institution, allowed her to lead several initiatives which supported student development, enrollment growth and improve student success outcomes. During her tenure, she organized student service, enrollment and retention initiatives which shifted the institution from a campus-based to a One College model. Dr. Blake recently concluded a two-year appointment by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to co-chair the Apply Texas Advisory Committee.
Dr. Blake's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Master of Arts degree in College Student Personnel Services Administration from Northwestern State University. She was awarded a doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Louisiana- Lafayette with a concentration in Higher Education Law and Administration.
As Dean of Students, Dr. Blake will provide supervisory oversight of Community Standards, the Counseling Center, and the Health and Wellness Center. She will also be collaborating with colleagues across the college, specifically College Advancement and the Student Emergency Fund, the Behavioral Assessment Team, and the Office of Institutional Assessment.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Blake to SUNY Oneonta.
Sincerely,
