About us
Founded in 1872, St. Luke’s University Health Network (SLUHN) is a fully integrated, regional, non-profit network of more than 20,000 employees providing services at 15 campuses and 300+ outpatient sites. With annual net revenue of $3.4 billion, the Network’s service area includes 11 counties in two states: Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Montgomery, Monroe, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey. St. Luke’s hospitals operate the largest network of trauma centers in Pennsylvania, with the Bethlehem Campus being home to St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. Dedicated to advancing medical education, St. Luke’s is the preeminent teaching hospital in central-eastern Pennsylvania. In partnership with Temple University, the Network established the Lehigh Valley’s first and only four-year medical school campus. It also operates the nation’s longest continuously operating School of Nursing, established in 1884, and 45 fully accredited graduate medical educational programs with more than 400 residents and fellows. In 2022, St. Luke’s, a member of the Children’s Hospital Association, opened the Lehigh Valley’s first and only free-standing facility dedicated entirely to kids. SLUHN is the only Lehigh Valley-based health care system to earn Medicare’s five-star ratings (the highest) for quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction. It is both a Leapfrog Group and Healthgrades Top Hospital and a Newsweek World’s Best Hospital. The Network’s flagship University Hospital has earned the 100 Top Major Teaching Hospital designation from Fortune/PINC AI 11 times total and eight years in a row, including in 2023 when it was identified as THE #4 TEACHING HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTRY.

Earlier this month, a three-day Wilderness Medicine Conference, a branch of Emergency Medicine, was held at Bear Creek Mountain Resort. Over 120 attendees, some from as far away as Texas, were there. St. Luke’s Emergency Medicine residents attended the conference and learned about a variety of topics, from snake bites to environmental exposure, pediatrics, trauma, wilderness toxicology, managing disasters on airplanes, as well as keeping a patient alive in the wilderness. This invaluable experience teaches health care professionals how to provide care outside of four walls when they don’t have a hospital nearby. The Wilderness Medicine Conference will plan to run again in spring 2025 and encourages attendance from anyone interested in learning these particular skillsets. #StLukesProud

The Victory for Veterans program at St. Luke's Penn Foundation has received a 2024 PA Suicide Prevention Award from the Commonwealth Prevention Alliance. “We are honored to be recognized for our important work of helping to prevent veteran suicides,” said Robert Brands, the Victory for Veterans manager. The Victory for Veterans program is a group of certified peer specialists who provide various services such as counseling, finding housing, finding jobs, and other services in an effort to reduce veteran suicide. A key part of the program is a veteran-to-veteran approach where all the staff is either a veteran themselves or comes from a military family. Victory for Veterans is one of the many services St. Luke’s provides to those who have served their country. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ev6Gz4Fu #StLukesProud #VictoryforVeterans

Maria Callanan of Easton went from being a longtime Miller-Keystone Blood Center donor to a recipient during a medical emergency. St. Luke’s continues its unwavering commitment as the only local health network to identify Miller-Keystone as its primary blood supplier. Without this support, the Lehigh Valley could run out of blood to provide lifesaving care, particularly during a blood shortage or other crisis. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYrQxJWQ #StLukesProud

Do you know how to control bleeding in the event of a serious injury? One well-trained Forks Township police officer, Seth Nelson, was Johnny-on-the-spot this past February to help a township man who cut his hand while operating a chop saw. St. Luke's had just provided Nelson and his fellow officers with Stop the Bleed training and kits for their police cars a few weeks earlier. Officer Nelson stopped the bleed so well that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) cleared the patient to be transported by his son in a personal vehicle to St. Luke’s Anderson Campus for further treatment. St. Luke’s provides free trauma and bleeding prevention education throughout the year to first responders, including police departments, schools and community organizations.
