Luke Pell is coming ‘Pretty Close’ to being the next big thing in country music with the release of his rocking new single.

From finding a fan base through his time on the hit reality show, The Bachelorette, to getting his heart broken to now using music as a way to tell his stories, Pell shows his emotional growth through his guitar-heavy track, “Pretty Close.” Singing about how the simple things of love matter the most, Pell proves to be quite the romantic, complete with dirt roads and red wine tailgating.

As a songwriter himself for many of his tracks, Pell always sticks to keeping it real when it comes to telling his stories lyrically. While he admits there’s no perfect formula for hitting the right chord for a new song, he knew that “Pretty Close” was a hook and an idea he had to play with as it brings light to what could be his ideal relationship.

“The one cool thing about songwriting is that there’s no real recipe, or there’s no rules. The co-writing process is so strong in Nashville, that you got different people with different levels of songwriting experience. Sometimes it’s artists with long-term songwriters, sometimes it’s an artist that was big in the 90’s and they’re pulling in from older influences. So it’s just really cool, the combination of ways that the process can start,” he told Sounds Like Nashville recently.

In the midst of making an EP for the spring, which will include “Pretty Close,” Pell has been drawing from the experiences he’s dealt with over the past hectic year from being on The Bachelorette and getting his heart broken in front of a huge audience. Instead of letting vulnerability discourage him, Pell channeled his feelings into his work in the writing room.

“Like this past year, being on that TV show, that was an experience in and of itself. Also not just an experience in life, but also an experience in relationship. So I definitely have some songs that are tailored around my experiences with my relationship on The Bachelorette, feeling vulnerable and feeling how fast that process can go,” he said.

Growing up as a boy from Texas, he also allowed the true country roots he’s got within him take over to find inspiration in a more rustic, downhome way.

“I grew up on a horse-ranch down in Texas,” he explained. “I’d wake up every morning at, like, 5am and clean the barn. I had a radio out there, and literally I would just listen to Clint Black and Garth Brooks and John Michael McGovern, and all these guys on repeat. I’d just listen to the radio every day. And Alabama. It was something that really got kind of deeply embedded in me, their lyrics and their melodies and those things.”

Listen to Pell’s latest release, “Pretty Close,” and be sure to stay on the lookout for a new EP from the country singer to come out later this spring.
