Anthony John Garcia "AJ", age 47, of Apopka, FL died February 21, 2021.
“Aj Garcia has performed, directed and designed for many theatres throughout his 30 year career.” This sentence always started his theatrical bio, but Aj was so much more than what can be put into words.
Raised in Williamstown, NJ, Anthony John was born to Eliezer and Awilda, and later became big brother to Melanie. Through the years he found such joy being Uncle to Bruce Jr, Cailyn, Breanne, Alex and Gianna.
As a child, Aj immersed himself in Star Wars, Transformers and Marvel comics while Melanie was learning ballet, tap and jazz. After Aj’s love for theatre began in middle school, Awilda later said, “I sent the wrong kid to dance class!”
Aj began his career as an actor and director in South Jersey and Philadelphia, but he lovingly referred to the The Ritz Theatre in Oaklyn as, “The theatre where I grew up.”
One summer gig in 2003 at the Jersey Shore led him to meeting CJ, guiding them to an inseparable love that lasted 17 years.
Costuming found its way into Aj’s life only a short 15 years ago, and this natural talent quickly became a passion. After moving to Orlando in 2010, Aj became one of the most sought-after designers in Central Florida. His award-winning creations always started with a simple question to the actor: “Are you comfortable?” This tender touch is what made Aj endearing to so many. We may miss the performances, the costumes, and the direction, but we will miss his laughter and love so much more. Simply put, we will miss our Aj.
Viewing will be Thursday 2-4pm at Norton Funeral Home 1232 S. Black Horse Pike Williamstown, NJ where funeral service will be celebrated at 4pm. Cremation is private.
