SUNYAC releases men's Track & Field All-Decade Team

The State University of New York Athletic Conference released its All-Decade Team today for men's track & field and SUNY Oneonta had a total of 10 former athletes selected to the squad that included only 65 athletes from across the conference that competed during the past decade.
 
Leading the list of selections for Oneonta is three-time National Champion Sean Bernstein '13.  Joining him are fellow National Champions Patrick Weinert '15, Joe Carr '16, Jake Alviene '16, Sean Daly '11 and Fred Romer '10.  Bernstein, Carr and Alviene were part of the 4x100-meter relay that won an outdoor national championship in 2013 while Daly and Romer were part of the 4x400 relay that won an indoor national title in 2009.  Weinert capped his dominating career with a national title in the hammer throw at the 2015 NCAA outdoor championships.
 
Rounding out the list of honorees for the Red Dragons includes Rob Farrell '15, Tyler O'Bryant '19, J.D. Roth '15 and Sean Wren '12.  All earned All-American honors at least once during their brilliant careers.
 
Bernstein owns the most national titles in the history of SUNY Oneonta athletics with three including a pair of individual titles to go with his relay title.  Bernstein won back-to-back national titles in the 200-meter dash in 2012 and 2013.  He was also national runner up in the 100-meter dash in 2013.  His overall performance at the 2013 NCAA meet earned him the National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.
 
In all, Bernstein was a nine-time national qualifier and seven-time All-American combined for indoor and outdoor track & field.  He earned a pair of All-American honors in the 60-meter dash during indoors including a second-place finish at the 2013 NCAA indoor championships.  Bernstein also captured a pair of ECAC individual titles and a relay title during his career.
 
At the SUNYAC level, Bernstein earned 12 conference titles to go with 16 medals while five times being named to the All-Conference Team.  He was the Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete at the 2013 conference outdoor championships while earning the same honor twice for his performance at the indoor championships.  Bernstein holds the SUNYAC outdoor record in the 200 (20.80 seconds) while also holding conference championship meet record (20.97 seconds).  He holds the conference indoor championship records in both the 60-meter dash (6.82 seconds) and 200 (21.67 seconds).
 
Bernstein was twice selected as the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Year (2012, 2013) while earning the indoor equivalent in 2012.  At the conclusion of his junior and senior seasons, he was the recipient of the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame James D. Ulrich Award, which is given to the most outstanding male track athlete from a non-Division I institution.
 
Bernstein currently is the program record holder in the indoor 200 and 4x200 relay while holding the outdoor program records in the 100, 200, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
 
Alviene is the program's top 110-meter hurdler earning multiple All-American honors during his career.
 
Alviene was a rookie in 2013 when his foursome won the relay national title.  Additionally, Alviene earned All-American honors twice more in the outdoor 110-meter high hurdles.  He was a 10-time national qualifier and a seven-time SUNYAC champion.  In 2016, Alviene earned USTFCCCA All-Region indoor and outdoor accolades in the hurdles and the 60 and 200-meter events.  He was also a six-time SUNYAC All-Conference performer and 10-time conference medalist.
 
Alviene holds program records in the 60 and 110-meter hurdles, 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
 
Alviene was a two-time USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete and was named to the 2014 SUNYAC All-Academic Team and the Commissioner's list in 2015 and 2016.
 
Roth was a top thrower during his four years with the track & field program from 2011-15.  He was a seven-time national qualifier and two-time indoor All-American in the weight throw.  In 2014, he finished fifth while in 2015 he placed seventh.
 
Roth captured his first SUNYAC title during the 2013 outdoor season in the shot put.  He followed in 2014 and 2015 with indoor conference championships in the weight throw and shot put respectively.  Roth collected 13 SUNYAC medals combined and earned All-Conference honors seven times.
 
Roth was twice named the SUNYAC indoor championship meet Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete and was the 2014 USTFCCCA Atlantic Region men's indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
 
Roth is currently the indoor and outdoor program record holder in the shot put with marks of 16.65 meters (54'-7 ½") and 17.02 meters (55-10 ¼") respectively.
 
Carr has the distinction of earning the most All-American honors in the history of the men's track & field program.
 
After getting his feet wet during the indoor season as a rookie, Carr began his All-American collection at the 2013 NCAA Division III outdoor championships capturing his first two.  In addition to the national title in the relay, Carr also earned All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the 200-meter dash.
 
Over his final three years, Carr would add to his total with six more individual All-American plaques.  Three of them came in the outdoor 200 while adding a pair in the same event during the indoor season.  His final honor came in the 400 meters at the 2016 NCAA championships where he was the national runner-up setting a school record of 47.23 seconds.
 
Carr had a dominating career in the SUNYAC conference collecting 10 conference titles, earning All-Conference honors seven times while medaling a total of 23 times.  Seven of his SUNYAC titles were individual including four during his final year of indoor and outdoor combined.  Carr earned the Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete twice for his performance at the conference outdoor championships and once for the indoor championships.
 
Regionally, Carr won three ECAC titles that included three relay and one individual title.  During his final year of competition, he earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in three indoor events and five outdoor events.  At the conclusion of the 2014 and 2016 outdoor seasons, Carr was selected as the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Male Track Athlete of the Year.
 
Weinert was a dominant thrower during his four-year career that culminated in a NCAA national title in the hammer throw in 2015.
 
Overall, Weinert was a three-time All-American including a second place finish at the 2015 NCAA indoor championships in the weight throw.  He was a five-time national qualifier and twice was selected as the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Male Field Athlete of the Year (2014, 2015).
 
At the conference level, Weinert was a five-time SUNYAC champion, seven-time All-Conference performer and earned nine medals for finishing in the top-3.  After his performance at the 2014 SUNYAC outdoor championships, he was selected as the men's Most Outstanding Field Athlete.
 
Weinert currently holds both the school and SUNYAC hammer and weight throw records.  He set the hammer record of 64.49 meters (211'-7") at the 2015 NCAA championships and set the weight throw mark of 20.47 meters (67'-2") at the NCAA indoor championships earlier that year.
 
Daly was a four-year member of the track & field team from 2007-11.  During his career, he was a champion at all levels including the national title in the 4x400 relay.  The NCAA title was the crowning jewel for that indoor season that saw the foursome win both the SUNYAC and ECAC indoor titles as well.
 
Daly would claim two more SUNYAC titles during his career in the 4x400 relay.  He was a seven-time conference medalist and earned Second Team All-Conference honors at the 2010 indoor championships.
 
Daly stills holds an individual school record for the indoor 600-meter run and the 2009 4x400 relay still holds the program mark as well.
 
Academically, Daly was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American earning First Team honors in 2011.  He was a two-time USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete in track & field and was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
 
O'Bryant transferred to Oneonta and competed for two years (2017-19) where he was the top sprinter in the SUNYAC.
 
In his two seasons with the Red Dragons, O'Bryant was a three-time All-American and four-time SUNYAC champion.  In his first season, he finished fourth at the 2018 NCAA indoor championships and, in 2019, he doubled up at the NCAA outdoor championships earning All-American honors in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
 
O'Bryant's performance at the SUNYAC outdoor championship in 2019, earned him the Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Meet.  After his performance at nationals, he was selected by the conference coaches as the Male Track Athlete of the Year.
 
O'Bryant earned USTFCCCA All-Region five times and was the 2018 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Coaches indoor 60-meter dash champion in 2018.  He was also a three-time SUNYAC All-Conference performer.
 
O'Bryant is the indoor school record holder for the 60-meter dash (6.79 seconds) while recording the second fastest outdoor 100-meter time (10.37 seconds) and the third fastest outdoor 200-meter time (21.24 seconds).
 
Farrell competed for the Red Dragons from 2011-15 where he followed Wren as the team's top intermediate hurdler.  Farrell's career culminated with an All-American performance at the 2015 NCAA outdoor championships finishing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.  Farrell was a two-time qualifier for the NCAA meet during his four years.
 
Farrell was a three-time SUNYAC outdoor champion while capturing a pair of ECAC outdoor titles.  He was a four-time SUNYAC All-Conference performer while earning 11 medals at the conference championship meet.  He currently holds the program record in the 400 hurdles of 52.05 seconds, which he ran at the 2015 NCAA championships.
 
Academically, Farrell was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2015 and earned USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete honors all four years.  Farrell was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete honor society while being named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List throughout his career.
 
Wren's four-year career was capped with a seventh place finish at the 2012 NCAA outdoor championships, which earned him his lone All-American honor.  Wren was a four-time national qualifier and four-time SUNYAC champion.  He was twice named to the All-Conference Team and earned a total of seven medals at the SUNYAC championships.  Wren graduated with the program record in the 400 hurdles of 52.27 seconds, which is currently the second fastest time.  As a senior, he set the SUNYAC outdoor championship meet record in the 400 hurdles of 52.68, which still stands.
 
Romer was the team's top middle-distance runner during his four-year career (2006-10).
 
Romer ran the second leg on the national champion 4x400 relay in 2009.  Besides qualifying in the relay, Romer also was an individual national qualifier in the 800-meter run.  He was part of three ECAC Champion relay foursomes including a pair at the outdoor meet.  Romer was a six-time SUNYAC medalist and earned All-Conference honors in 2008.  Romer still holds the program record for the indoor 800 at 1:52.71.  In addition to the 4x400 program record indoors, he is also part of the foursome that holds the school record in the distance medley relay.
