Dear St. Lukers,
It’s been a long year for all of us – but as many of you know, it’s been an especially long year for our friends and family in the performing arts world. Last March, we had to cut our run of Steel Magnolias short, darkening our stage alongside every other theater and performing arts venue in town. And yet – as the stages went dark, we were able to create an opportunity to shine some light for our performers and technicians.
We’ve gotten to practice revealing the Kingdom by walking alongside our artists and performers every Tuesday since last May, offering food, resources, and community with our Supporting HEARTS events. We have been blessed to be a space where, while many of our stages have been empty, our arts family have found a place of hope, a place of community, and a place of faithfulness to God, but also to them.
This Sunday, the lights are coming back up, not just for our community, but for our stage at St. Luke’s.
Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, or via livestream, I hope you’ll join us for our Summer Pops Concert. This will be an opportunity to hear some of your favorite music from beloved movies, musicals, and more played by an orchestra that represents not only St. Lukers, but our whole community of artists of all ages.
This concert is a fun summer event, but it’s also about bringing our community back to life, coming together to receive the gifts of so many of our talented community members, and for us to offer back the applause that has been silent in our audiences for far too long.
Hearing the Sanctuary filled with song at rehearsals these last few weeks has not only been exciting because it’s a sign of our return to the fullness of arts ministry at St. Luke’s, but an emotional and heartwarming experience to see the passion and heart of artists in our congregation and our community come together to fill our world with music again.
