Summary Statement of Research Interests
The areas of research that I investigate are multidisciplinary and overlap multiple sub-disciplines of microbiology, including geomicrobiology, environmental microbiology, microbial physiology, microbial systematics, and evolutionary microbiology, with the main driver being the isolation of novel microorganisms as models of study. My research has focused on investigating microbial use of natural inorganic sources of energy (e.g., Fe, S, H2, Mn) and the biological interactions with minerals and rocks in order to get better perspective on the mechanisms that microbes use to cycle different elements on Earth.
