Product Description
Forget Nashville, with their buzz-making brand of rock-roots-country, the Honeycutters are out to make Asheville, NC the brand new music city. Singer and songwriter Amanda Anne Platt founded the band in 2007, recruiting upright bassist Rick Cooper, mandolin player Tal Taylor, drummer Josh Milligan and Matt Smith on pedal steel and electric guitar, and since their debut they've been steadily gaining traction. The group has shared stages with Billy Joe Shaver, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Donna the Buffalo and the Steep Canyon Rangers, building up the chops that lead to 2015's critical success, Me Oh My. Now full steam ahead, the group is preparing to follow up on their breakout album with On The Ropes, released May 20th on Organic Records.
Review
There are a lot of worthy and compelling Americana singer-songsters and bands out there right now, it s a rich landscape. But The Honeycutters, fronted by Amanda Platt is surely a wonder to behold. The band just sounds so darn good and makes a style of country music that always makes me feel good, even when it s so melancholy. --Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls
Ms. Platt deserves to be rubbing shoulders with Lucinda, Loretta and Nanci. Already well established in the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Honeycutters must be destined for far greater success. If not, the world is going to hell in a handcart. --David Innes, R2 - Rock n Reel (UK), 5 star review
Amanda Anne Platt...is able to convey feelings and experiences so simply and honestly that the listener knows of what she is speaking. Those songs are fueled by the stellar instrumentation of her bandmates on dobro, mandolin, drums and pedal steel as well as Platt s captivating vocals, ethereal and earthy, which deliver those words with a wisdom beyond her years. --The Daily Country, Tara Joan

- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2024Being in my late 60's, I appreciate songwriters whose focus is not the idealistic/romantic world of twenty-somethings -- songwriters who've lived long enough to be able to meaningfully address topics I find more personally relevant at this stage of life. Amanda Ann Platt is such a songwriter. Moreover, she's able to accomplish this feat without being ponderous or self-consciously "profound". And the Honeycutters are not simply anonymous studio pros. This is a real band. Although many might rush to label them as Country, Platt has disclosed she's as much influenced by Springsteen and Tom Petty as classic County artists. And this is borne out by the music, which clearly integrates a variety of genres. So, while there is pedal steel, the guitarist's utilization of a Strat instead of the more-expected Tele and his use of bluesy bends brings a Rock tinge to the arrangements. Not that I don't enjoy pedal steel. I do! This is a record that easily stands up to repeated listening. My only slight reservation is the choice to cover "Hallelujah",a song covered by many but that only a select few can really pull off convincingly. There's nothing "wrong" with this version, but it fails to distinguish itself from the many other versions and for my tastes, the tempo doesn't fit the flow of the lyrics particularly well. But I'm nitpicking. It's a terrific record!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2016Another amazing recording by one of the best bands out there. Amanda Platt is a songwriter without equal, and the musical talent in this band is outstanding. You should just go ahead and order ALL of their recordings, because you are going to anyway, after hearing "On The Ropes".
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2016I bought the CD after seeing the band play a great live show. The songs are well written and the production was well done. I thought the CD was overproduced, with too much piano and B3, and missing the acoustic guitar. I could only hear the mandolin in a few songs. Overall, good roots music with a little too much production in the studio. Just because you can add some extra tracks, doesn't mean that you should.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2018Another great release from Amanda and the Honeycutters. Hard to believe that this band isn't better known.

4.0 out of 5 stars Che piacevole sopresa
Bello.
