Warhawks Sweep CUW, Weinfurt Records 1,000th Kill

The No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team swept Concordia University Wisconsin 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) Tuesday night in Russell Arena. Senior outside hitter Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) reached the 1,000 career kill milestone along the way.

UW-Whitewater put the pressure on from the service line throughout the match registering 10 aces. Rylee Duessler (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) bolstered the Warhawks' service Tuesday with four aces including three in the middle of the first set. With Duessler at the line, UWW ran off eight straight to take a 19-9 lead and never looked back.

Another big mid-set run in set two gave the Warhawks a handy lead. UW-Whitewater tallied seven of eight to claim a 19-14 advantage. UWW went on to score the final four points of the set with Weinfurt hammering down a pair of kills in the small run.

The Warhawks took jumped out quick and ran away with the third set. Weinfurt pounded down 6 kills in 10 attempts - with her final kill of the night bringing her to 1,000 career kills.

For the match, Weinfurt hit .382 with 16 kills. Fellow outside Ally Warburton (St. Charles, Ill./North) joined her in double figures with 10 kills in 20 attempts. Defensively at the net, Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) posted five blocks including two solo to lead all players.

Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 27 assists and added a pair of aces. Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led all players with 10 digs in the contest.

The Warhawks return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday against UW-Stout. The 7 p.m. match will be the team's annual Dig Panici Night in honor of late Warhawk Lisa Panici.
