Buckinghamshire Volunteer Managers’ Network series

Volunteer Managers’ Network – Virtual volunteering and support.

The pandemic has changed the way many volunteers supported our organisations and, as a result, how we support them. With many continuing to volunteer remotely, our next Volunteer Managers’ Network event on 21st October (10-11.30am) looks at virtual volunteering and the type of support that you may need to give to your volunteers helping from home.

We have invited Charlie and Philippa from Transitions UK, a local charity that supports vulnerable young people aged 14 – 25 years, to share their experiences of virtual volunteering – particularly with reference to mentoring young people – and remote volunteer management in general. During the session, you will have the chance to ask them questions, share good practice amongst fellow volunteer managers, and network in the breakout session.

As well as looking at how virtual volunteering can fit into your future plans, we will also reflect on your experiences in the last quarter where you will have a chance to share your successes and challenges with fellow volunteer managers including:

·         What challenges have you faced?

·         What has gone well?

·         Could you have done anything differently?

·         Has your organisation reopened for indoor activities?

Who should attend?

Anyone (paid/unpaid) involved with recruiting/managing volunteers for charities, community groups or social enterprises that deliver services in Buckinghamshire. Whether you’re new in your role with lots of questions, or experienced and looking to exchange fresh ideas you are welcome.

Please note that the event is for organisations whose beneficiaries are in Buckinghamshire and priority will be given to organisations with a turnover of £100,000 or below. Spaces are limited to one representative from each organisation.

Your facilitator: Lew Headley, VCSE and Community Development Officer at Community Impact Bucks, has a background in working with children and families and mentoring young people. He has extensive experience in training volunteers, recruiting trustees, setting up small community projects, and supporting volunteers.

Feedback from past attendees: “Useful to hear about how other local organisations have adapted during the pandemic and compare with own organisations progress.”

How to book: The event will be held on Zoom on Thursday 21st October from 10.00am to 11.30am. Places are limited so we recommend booking as soon as possible. If you do miss out, we are operating a waiting list and will email you the recording of the main group discussion and any resources shared after the event.
