3 Million HERS® Homes and Counting!

The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) announces that over three million homes in the United States have now been rated with a HERS® Index Score, measuring a home’s energy efficiency.

Says RESNET Executive Director Steve Baden, “What started in 1995 with just a few hundred homes rated per year, has now grown exponentially, backed by consumer demand. By 2012, there were more than one million homes HERS® rated, followed by another million homes by 2017, and now the milestone of over three million home HERS® rated, a little over 3 years later. The upward trajectory of home buyers choosing more energy-efficient, comfortable and healthier homes is certain to continue.”

2nd Annual Virtual #RESNET5K to Benefit One Tree Pledge

This year, participants are raising money for the RESNET campaign with One Tree Pledge to plant 300,000 trees by the year 2023, in honor of the recent #3MHERSandCounting milestone!

When you participate in this year’s virtual #RESNET5K, April 22 – May 31, each dollar raised will plant 1 tree!

RESNET Collaboration with One Tree Pledge

Steve Baden, Executive Director of Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), and Michael Ziman, Founder of the new One Tree Pledge (OTP) sustainability campaign, announce a unique new collaboration in celebration of the 3 millionth home to be rated by the Home Energy Rating System Index (the HERS® Index). Together RESNET and OTP are launching a campaign with the goal of planting 300,000 trees to help combat climate change by the end of January 2023. The trees, over their lifetime, will naturally sequester roughly 3 million pounds of carbon from the atmosphere annually, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Join us! OTP encourages homeowners and construction companies of all types to mitigate the carbon emissions associated with home energy use by planting 1 tree for every 1 square foot of the property. Now, everyone in real estate can get involved, from home raters and appraisers to realtors and mortgage brokers. Donate to our tree planting initiative at a cost of only $1 per tree. Visit https://onetreepledge.org/resnet/ and plant as many trees as you can to help us reach the goal!
