Dear Families,

Next week, the School District will reopen its Learning Model Selection Process, allowing PreK-2 families who initially chose the 100% digital learning model in the fall the opportunity to opt into hybrid learning (a mix of in-person and digital learning each week) this school year.

The selection window will open on Tuesday, March 16, and close on Tuesday, March 23. Similar to the selection process last fall, PreK-2 families will be able to choose between the hybrid learning model and the 100% digital learning model — whatever works best given the needs of your child and family. If you choose hybrid learning, your child will attend school in person two days per week and engage in digital learning three days each week, based on an assigned schedule, beginning the week of Monday, April 5, 2021. These schedules are designed to safely limit the number of students in schools each day and help maintain social distancing in all school spaces throughout the day.

I encourage you to view these Safe Return to School and Clean and Healthy Schools videos, and visit philasd.org/aes to learn more about the many layers of safety we have in place to protect the health and well-being of everyone in our schools. If you still have questions, you can call our hotline for English-speaking families at 215-400-5300, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hotlines in other languages can be found here.

You will receive a link to the Learning Model Selection Survey next Tuesday from the school. Remember to reply before the survey closes on March 23rd. If you do not respond to the survey, your child will remain with 100% digital learning. Families selecting hybrid learning will be contacted by their child’s school between March 24-26, 2021 regarding next steps. As always, families that choose hybrid learning can return to 100% digital learning at any time.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we continue to support the learning needs of our youngest learners.

Sincerely,

William R. Hite Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
