Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University senior
Darren Wan (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wan became the 18th Osprey to earn an Academic All-America honor overall and fourth in men's track & field/cross country.
Last month, Wan was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Team for the third straight year (2020-22). He amassed a 3.97 grade point average and graduated from Stockton with his master's degree in business administration at the University's commencement ceremony on May 13.
Wan capped his outstanding career in the throwing events by earning All-American status with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 28. He broke his own school record in the event with a distance of 58.25 meters.
Competing in indoor and outdoor track & field, Wan qualified for the NCAA Championships three times, earning spots in the hammer at the 2021 and 2022 outdoor meets and weight throw at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships. Chronologically, he placed 10th, 14th and sixth in his three appearances at the NCAA Championships.
Wan earned a total of six NJAC All-Conference accolades, five Second Team and one Honorable Mention. He also was a four-time All-Region qualifier from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Wan holds school records of 17.96 meters in the indoor weight throw and 58.25 meters in the outdoor hammer throw. He initially broke the weight throw mark, which had stood for 35 years, in 2020 and subsequently extended it to its current distance.
Similarly, Wan topped the 15-year-old school record in the outdoor hammer throw in 2021 and continued boosting it further until his final college meet at the NCAA Championships last month. He totaled seven career event wins during his time at Stockton.
Wan is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual, and he is eligible for a third honor this summer. He also is a 2021 NJAC All-Academic First Team and two-time NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention performer. Three weeks ago, he attended the NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis as a springboard for his future.
