Stockton Sweeps Montclair State 3-0; Walker Earns 400th Career Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-6, 2-1 NJAC) swept the visiting Montclair State Red Hawks (5-8, 1-3 NJAC) 3-0 on Tuesday night. The scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17, giving head coach Allison Walker her 400th career win at the helm of the Ospreys. Haley Green (Springville, UT/Maple Mountain) topped all players with 16 kills on the night.
 
The match started tight with nine ties in the first set. With the set tied for the last time at 20-20, Stockton ripped off four of the last five points to take the set at 25-21. Two kills by freshman Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton), a spike from Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands), and an ace and a kill from Green captured the set.
 
The second set was all Ospreys as they led by as many as seven points on the way to the 25-20 win behind four kills by Green. The third set was all Stockton again. With the score knotted at 8-8, a pair of kills by Green and two blocks and a kill by Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) opened a 13-8 lead. The Ospreys never looked back from there and captured the match 25-17, giving Walker her milestone victory.
 
Louer posted her third double-double of the season with 14 kills and 13 digs, with fellow rookie Regan Mendick (Newark, DE/Red Lion Christian) dishing a match-high and career-high 23 assists.
 
The back row was solid as Molly Eng (New Providence/New Providence) and Paige Anania (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) added 12 and 10 digs respectively. Witherspoon, the leading blocker in the NJAC, added four more stuffs to her total.
 
For the Red Hawks, Leah Higgins had 10 kills, with Delaney St. Pierre dishing 15 assists.  Emma Hatcher led the defense with a match-high 15 digs.
 
Stockton will have a week off until next Tuesday October 4, when they will travel to Mahwah, NJ to face Ramapo College. Match time is scheduled for 7 pm.
