Dr. Hauenstein is a computational and applied mathematician that joined the faculty in 2014 after an assistant professorship at North Carolina State University and postdoctoral positions at the Fields Institute, Mittag-Leffler Institute, and Texas A&M. His research focuses on developing numerical methods for solving nonlinear equations which has been implemented in the software package Bertini and applied to a variety of science and engineering problems. Dr. Hauenstein has advised many undergraduate and graduate students as well as several postdoctoral scholars who have continued their careers in both academia and industry. His research has been honored with various awards including a Sloan Research Fellowship, DARPA Young Faculty Award, Army Research Office Young Investigator Award, Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, and College of Science Research Award. He is also an award winning instructor who incorporates computational tools and mathematical simulations into lectures. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife and kids.
