Stockton Rolls to 6-0 Win over Rosemont

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-1-1) extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with a dominant 6-0 victory over Rosemont. The Ospreys outshot the Ravens 21-3 and broke open a 2-0 game with four goals in the second half.

Nine Stockton players found their way onto the scoresheet, led by Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) with a goal and an assist. Larry Abanilla (Union/Union Catholic) and Darnell Lopez (Paterson/St. Benedict's Prep) each scored their first goal of the season.

Drew Ruble (Medford/Shawnee) started the scoring at 24:56, heading home a corner kick by Gjeli. With 7:39 left in the first half, Andrew Griggs (Galloway/Absegami) took a through ball from Brendan Deal (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) and booted a shot into the lower left side for a 2-0 lead.

Just 3:54 into the second half, Abanilla touched the ball around a defender and scored on a blast from the right wing to boost the margin to 3-0. The Ospreys put the game out of reach with three more tallies in a span of 6:13 late in the game.

Gjeli netted his team-high fourth goal of the season with a header on a corner kick by Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) at 76:07. Joel Burgos (Eatontown/Monmouth) then tracked down a long ball from Ian Byrne (Lanoka Harbor/Lacey Twp.) and scored from the right side to make it 5-0 at 80:52.

Less than 90 seconds later, Lopez capped the 6-0 triumph by scoring on a rebound into an empty net after a nice save by Rosemont goalie Zachary Young on a shot by Deal. The assist by Deal was his second of the game.

Starting goalkeeper Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) played the first half without facing a shot on goal to extend his scoreless streak to 405 minutes. Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) saw his first action of the season by playing the second half and making one save to complete the combined shutout.

Rosemont starter Grant Gonzalez made five saves in the first 81 minutes and Young finished up with one stop in the last nine minutes of the match.

Stockton will play its NJAC opener on Saturday when the Ospreys host Kean University at G. Larry James Stadium at 1 p.m.
