Stockton Cruises Past Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ – Stockton University (14-7, 11-3 NJAC) had 11 players reach the scoring column as the Ospreys ran by the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders (2-19, 1-13 NJAC) 71-54 on Wednesday night. Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) and Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) led the Ospreys with 12 points each.
 
The home team jumped out quickly, forging a 7-3 lead with 7:12 remaining in the first quarter, but would not score the rest of the period. Stockton finished the quarter on a 9-0 run led by Dulude with four markers, as the Ospreys took a 12-7 advantage into the second frame.
 
A 17-10 second stanza pushed the Ospreys to a 29-17 halftime margin, on the strength of six Stockton players tallying points, led by Fathi with six of the 17.
 
Stockton poured it on in the third quarter, hitting 50.0% (9-18) while expanding the lead to 52-33 after three frames. Aiya Underwood (Highland Park/Highland Park) came off the bench to add six markers during the period.
 
The visitors kept up the pace in the final quarter, not allowing the margin to get below double digits the rest of the way in the comfortable 71-54 victory. The 14 wins are the most by an Ospreys squad since the 2017-18 season, excluding the Covid shortened year of 2020-21.
 
Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) scored 10 points with a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double, as Stockton held a massive 50-28 margin on the glass for the contest. Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack added eight points, nine rebounds and a game-high five assists.
 
Rutgers-Newark was led by Samiyah Horton with game-highs of 21 points and five steals, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Ebony Odom Barnes and Arlenny Medina added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Stockton will be back in action on Saturday, at home, when the Ospreys will host Montclair State at 3 pm.
