Stockton’s Five-Game Win Streak Halted by Rowan

Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (14-3, 8-2 NJAC) saw its five-game winning streak, the team's second of at least that long this season, end with a 107-69 defeat to league leader Rowan University (14-3, 10-0).

The Ospreys seemingly had nothing left in the tank after an exhausting and emotionally taxing nine-day stretch. During that time, Stockton played four games, winning three, while dealing with the death of long-time assistant coach Bob Hutchings on January 10 and paying their last respects to "Coach Hutch" over the last 48 hours.

Stockton shot just 33.3 percent from the field (26-78) and only 17.4 percent from three-point range (4-23). Freshman Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) produced his first career double-digit game with a career-high 14 points. Gaither went 5-7 from the field (71.4%).

Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) scored 12 points and Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go with six points. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) finished with nine points and seven boards.

Stockton led 21-16 after a three-pointer by Campbell nine minutes into the game that proved to be the final highlight of the contest for the Ospreys. Rowan reeled off 15 straight points to jump ahead 31-21 and the Profs led by double digits for all but 19 seconds during the last 27 minutes of play.

With the outcome decided early, both teams substituted liberally. No Osprey played more than 28 of the game's 40 minutes and no Rowan player saw more than 23 minutes of playing time.

Ja'Zere Noel paced the Profs with 17 points followed by Marcellus Ross with 14 markers and Ahmad Bickley with 12.

Stockton will have a couple of days to rest and regroup before hosting Ramapo College in a conference game at The Sports Center on Saturday at 3 p.m.
