Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship

The Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship will be awarded to students who will enroll full-time as undergraduate students in an accredited nonprofit two-year college or technical school program in the construction trades. Students in apprenticeship programs will also be considered. Up to 50 students will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship that is renewable for one additional year. Graybar established this scholarship to help raise the visibility of opportunities in the construction trades and remove barriers for students with financial need.

Eligibility
To be eligible, the applicant must:
• be a graduating high school senior, have graduated high school, or have earned a high school equivalency diploma (GED, HiSET, TASC).
• plan to enroll full-time in a nonprofit community college, technical school, trade school, vocational school, or full-time or part-time in an apprenticeship program in the United States
• intend to complete an associate degree, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, or certificate program leading to work in the construction trades (such as carpentry, construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting, sheet metal, welding, telecom, etc.).
• have achieved a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, 456 on the GED, or 60 on the HiSET (at least an 8 on each subtest) or equivalent scores on a state-sanctioned test.
• demonstrate financial need.

Evaluation and Selection
Applicants should answer all questions that apply to them, not just the required questions. Applications will be evaluated based on past academic performance, potential for continued success, the quality of the essay and recommendations, financial need, and evidence of the student’s commitment to the construction trades.

Children of Graybar employees may apply but will receive no preferential treatment in the selection process.

Notification
Application status will be changed from submitted to either awarded or denied in June. Applicants can view their status by logging in to their Scholarship Central account. Scholarship award checks will be mailed in August.

Renewal
Recipients may reapply for award consideration for a maximum of two years of community college, technical school, trade school, vocational school, or full-time or part-time in an apprenticeship program in the construction trades funding provided they continue to make satisfactory progress toward a degree and continue to demonstrate financial need. Please note that because the award amounts are based on available funding and financial need that can change from year to year, the amount of this scholarship award may change if a recipient applies for renewal awards in years to come.
