Stockton Rolls Over Eastern 13-2

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-3) finished up a stretch of five home games in four days with a convincing 13-2 victory over Eastern University (6-4) on Tuesday afternoon. Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) drove in four runs while Ryan Swift (Sewell/Washington Twp.) scored five runs.

Stockton scored all the runs they would need in the first inning for a quick 3-0 lead. RBI by Swift, John Perrino (Wall/Wall) and Jay Marchese (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) accounted for the markers.

Viani knocked in a pair in the second inning to extend the margin to 5-0. The Ospreys salted the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating four runs on just one hit.

Viani picked up two more RBI, with Nick Trifiletti (Linwood/Mainland) and Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) driving the other two runs home. Stockton added two runs apiece in the fifth and seventh frames to offset a pair of tallies by Eastern and set the final score at 13-2.

Freshman Aaron Winsker (Baltimore, Md./Hereford) started and pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits and striking out two batters in three scoreless frames. Five Osprey relievers saw action and finished up behind the rookie.

Marco Meleo (Freehold/Freehold Boro), Swift, Viani and Perrino each rapped two hits, with Meleo scoring four times and making two spectacular diving grabs in centerfield. Perrino and Anthony Napoli (Erial/Timber Creek) had two RBI each.

Stockton will have some time off before facing SUNY Poly in a doubleheader on Saturday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. First pitch of the twinbill is at 1:30 p.m.
