Rockwood makerspace

A space to learn and create at Rockwood Library

The makerspace is a collaborative learning environment at Rockwood Library with an emphasis on middle and high school learners. The space provides access to innovative technology, equipment, software and supportive mentors. Within this 1,000 square-foot area, people learn real-life technology, design and engineering skills through open labs, workshops and camps.

Free 3D printing at the makerspace

The Rockwood makerspace offers free 3D printing to the public (see 3D printer policy). The 3D printers are available on a first-come, first-served basis during drop-in sessions. Staff and volunteers are available to help with both 3D model design and preparing 3D prints for the printers.

  • Patrons who want to use the library’s 3D printers can come to a drop-in session for teens, adults, or users of all ages.
  • Our 3D printing workflow uses STL files.
  • Print times are limited to seven hours. You do not need to be present while your print is running.
  • All prints will be made with polylactic acid (PLA plastic). Patrons may choose the color of their 3D print from options available in the makerspace.
  • When your print is complete, makerspace staff will notify you and your print will be available for pickup at the Rockwood Library front desk.

Rockwood Library makerspace is made possible by gifts to The Library Foundation and a grant from the Mount Hood Cable Regulatory Commission through funds provided by cable companies.
