Stockton Repeats as NJAC Champions

 Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-0), which is ranked No. 18 in this week's AVCA Division III poll, captured the NJAC volleyball championship with a 3-0 triumph over Montclair State (5-2). Stockton won by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-13 in winning their second consecutive NJAC title and 14th in school history.
 
Haley Green (Springville, UT/Maple Mountain) led all players with a career-high 14 kills, with Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) registering a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs.
 
The Ospreys started strong, with the team smashing at a .524 hitting percentage during the first set. Green and Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) spiked four and three kills respectively. Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dished nine helpers and had three digs during the win.
 
With the score 12-9, Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) started an eight-point spurt with a tremendous dig to get Stockton to a 20-9 lead and eventually the 25-12 victory.
 
The teams battled back and forth at the beginning of the second set as the Red Hawks pressured Stockton. A pair of digs by Grace Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) helped the Ospreys to an 11-5 margin, forcing Montclair State into a timeout. A 9-3 run by the visitors, led by three kills by Leah Higgins and an another by Gianna Arias helped knot the match at 14-14.
 
Louer took over from there, with three of her six kills in the set, along with a spike by Green and an ace by Grace Brandt, pushing Stockton to the 25-18 set win.
 
The Stockton team all played a role in the final set victory. Green spiked five kills followed by Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) with four and Louer adding three kills to the cause. Grace Brandt scooped four more digs and sister Alice Brandt served four consecutive points during the 25-13 win.
 
Sullivan then finished off the match by serving the last two points, including an ace followed by the championship clincher. Sullivan eded her brilliant career foruth in Stockton hsistory in assists (3,073) and tied for fifth in aces (215). Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) placed 10th in career blocks with 283.
 
In addition to Green and Louer, Kohlhoff and Leon spiked eight kills each, with Sullivan dishing a game-high 35 assists and scooping 10 digs for a double-double. Grace Brandt topped the team with 12 digs and tied Louer with two aces each. Kohlhoff and Gustave blocked a pair of attacks each.

Stockton finished with a perfect 7-0 record during the shortened Spring 2021 campaign.
 
For Montclair State Carly Waterman had six kills, with Delaney St. Pierre dishing 13 assists. Maddie Valko scooped a game-high 13 digs on the backline for the Red Hawks, while Higgins blocked two attempts at the net.
