Galloway, NJ – Five members of the Stockton University field hockey team have been recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The requirement for this recognition was a cumulative grade-point average of 3.90 or higher through the Fall 2018 semester. This year, 268 students received this recognition.
The Ospreys that achieved this award include juniors
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) and
Rebecca Moya (Ramsey/Ramsey), sophomore
Issy Gilhooley (Ocean City/Ocean City), and freshmen
Kelsey Andrus (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) and
Cara Kientz (Franklinville/Delsea).
Stockton also qualified for a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. In addition, 19 players qualified for the Zag Field Hockey Division III National Academic Squad, including Gilligan, Moya, Gilhooley, Andrus and Kientz. The Ospreys finished the season by winning the ECAC Championship for their first postseason title in the program's 16-year history.
Moya was recognized as a Scholar of Distinction after the team's 2017 season, making this her second recognition. The junior made an appearance in three games during the 2018 season.
Gilligan was selected to the South Atlantic Region Second Team by the National Field Hockey Association after the 2018 season. She also received other honors at the end of the season including NJAC Goaltender of the Year and NJAC First Team. The junior finished third in the NJAC in total saves (107), along with ranking 15th in NCAA Division III in save percentage and 30th nationally in goals against average.
Gilhooley finished the 2018 season playing in all 21 games and starting 20. Andrus made an appearance in four games and Kientz in seven.
