Stockton Tops Misericordia for Zulauf’s 100th Win

Dallas, PA – Stockton University (7-1) broke open a close game with six goals in a seven-minute span of the second quarter and went on to an 18-12 win over Misericordia (3-3). The victory was win number 100 for head coach Kevin Zulauf, who is in his 10th season. Zulauf's career record stands at 100-62.
 
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored a game-high five goals while Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) added one goal and eight assists. Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) and Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) chipped in with three goals apiece.
 
Misericordia scored twice in the first four minutes before Stockton answered with four straight tallies. Shea, Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern), J.J. McKenna (Barnegat/Barnegat) and Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) tossed in one apiece as the Ospreys surged ahead 4-2.
 
Swedlund's first of the day made it 5-3 but the Cougars responded 28 seconds later and the Ospreys had a slim 5-4 edge after one quarter. Shea began the decisive run of six straight goals 37 seconds into the second period. McKenna, Swedlund, Anderson, Tiernan and Poli followed as the lead ballooned to 11-4.
 
Misericordia tried to rally with three straight markers overlapping the second and third quarters to get within 11-7. Swedlund ended the threat with two goals in a row, both assisted by Anderson, for a 13-7 advantage. The Cougars then came back with two counters in 47 seconds to make it 13-9.
 
Stockton put the game away with three consecutive goals, one each by Poli, D'Arminio and Swedlund for a 16-9 lead with 12:04 remaining in the game. Shea and Poli later tacked on one more tally apiece to seal the 18-12 victory.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) backstopped his team to victory with 12 saves. Logan Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) paced the defense with game highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
Patrick Luzzi sparked Misericordia with four goals and two assists. Cougars' goalie Owen Rogers finished with 19 saves.
 
Stockton will play its second of three straight road games on Wednesday when the Ospreys visit DeSales University for a 7 pm matchup.
