Clarification on extension of annual leave expiration date

The following message was shared with employees via email on Dec. 10.

Recently, the New York State Governor’s Office of Employee Relations announced an agreement with all unions on an extension of the upcoming annual leave expiration date of Dec. 31, 2020. The extension also applies to management/confidential (M/C) employees who would otherwise forfeit unused annual leave on Jan. 1, 2021.

All such unused annual leave can now be carried through Dec. 31, 2021.

The changing nature of the pandemic created various restrictions on travel. The pandemic also created new stress as some needed to juggle caretaking and work differently than before. In addition, everyone worked so hard to maintain instruction and important support and services for our students and for the operations of the College. As a result, many deferred taking time they would have normally taken throughout the year.

As we enter a different time and pace of the semester and intercession period, I encourage individuals to consider taking some time to recharge and I encourage supervisors to work with employees and their request for time off.

Employees with questions about the extension of the leave expiration date can contact the Benefits Office at benefits@newpaltz.edu.
