Job Summary:  

Become a valued member of our KU Bookstore team through a flexible part-time role designed to support your growth. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training to familiarize you with our point-of-sale systems, fostering your development along the way. We believe in the power of cross-training to unlock your full potential and enhance your skill set. As a team member, your responsibilities will include proficiently handling all register transactions, managing merchandise refunds and exchanges, attending to telephone inquiries, restocking sales floor, processing deliveries and provide exceptional customer service. Additionally, you will contribute to upholding the store's brand standards through product merchandising and maintaining the store's appearance. You will also be responsible for accurate handling of monetary transactions. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including morning and afternoon. Join us and be part of our dynamic team!

Supervision Received & Given:

Receives direct supervision from the Retail Operations Manager, Bookstore lead and Administrative Assistant.

Essential Functions:

  1. Providing exceptional customer service by greeting customers, understanding their needs, and assisting them in finding products that meet their requirements.
  2. Operating cash registers or point of sale systems to process transactions accurately and efficiently, including handling cash, credit cards, and other forms of payment.
  3. Ensuring that products are attractively displayed and well-organized on the sales floor, including restocking shelves and maintaining cleanliness.
  4. Monitoring stock levels, identifying fast-moving and slow-moving items, and communicating inventory needs to management.
  5. Addressing customer inquiries, concerns, or complaints in a timely and professional manner, and escalating issues as needed to ensure customer satisfaction.
  6. Collaborating with colleagues and supervisors to achieve sales targets, maintain store operations, and create a positive work environment.
  7. Adherence to policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge Abilities & Skills:  
1. Ability to work with the public in a retail sales situation.
2. Ability to work well with other employees.
3. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
4. Ability to do moderately heavy lifting.
5. Ability to handle money and make change accurately.
6. Skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and with coworkers.
7. Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and maintain a prominent level of organization.
8. Maintain positive attitude in all aspects of work, including with peers, management team, and customers during demanding situations.

Requirements:

  1. High school graduate
  2. Ability to work with the public in a retail sales situation
  3. Moderate cashiering/electronic cash register experience
  4. Ability to do moderately heavy lifting
  5. Skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff.
  6. Previous retail experience with supervisory experience preferred.
