Allie's Journey

Allie is a bright and energetic 16-year-old, who loves to swim and enjoy the outdoors; she began to lose mobility in her left arm this past May. Concerned with her symptoms, her parents (Dan and Melissa) took her in for an MRI that turned into a referral to UW Pediatric Neurology. They were later admitted to American Family Children's Hospital for further tests.
After monitoring Allie and reviewing the MRI results, the doctors leaned toward an auto-immune disease. Something they thought they could treat with oral medication and occupational therapy. As time went on, however, her symptoms were not improving, and further testing was needed.
More tests and procedures were administered, and Allie's doctors found a lesion on her spine that required a biopsy. The biopsy revealed that Allie had a tumor which was then found to be Diffuse Midline Glioma.
Allie and her family are dealing with a lot in terms of her treatment. They have started radiation therapy which is expected to last for six weeks. Allie is currently in her first week of radiation and is showing remarkable strength and courage. She is facing her tumor and the treatment with a positive attitude and unwavering faith, which is truly inspiring.
Allie's father and brother, Dan and Ben, work at Marquette-Adams Telephone Company. We were deeply saddened upon hearing about Allie's struggles, along with Dan and his family. To offer support to the Andres family, please scroll down to discover ways in which you can contribute.
