2-DAY WORKSHOP

THE PSPF ARTIST’S BOOK-MAKING WORKSHOP: A two-day workshop with Michelle Dunn Marsh and Dan Milnor.

Thursday, May 10th – Friday, May 11th, 9:00am – 4:45pm

Realizing your work in book form is a dream for many photographers. As the publishing and printing landscapes evolve, new creative tools offer the opportunity to make an art object, in book form, utilizing your photographs.

PSPF is proud to present its second two-day artist’s book workshop led by a seasoned designer / publisher, and one of the most prolific artist book makers working today.

Day one: An introduction to the artist book, and the many forms it can take, looking at a variety of both hand-crafted and highly-produced examples, as well as a review of participants’ projects for book consideration. Discussions about concept, physicality, sequencing, materials, quantities, and production of your artist’s book will take place.

Day two: You will apply knowledge toward your own project with hands-on sequencing, scale consideration, and walk out the door with a mock-up for ongoing development.

Who is this class for?

Photographers who have a body of work they envision in book form.

Photographers who have a body of work and want to expand their thinking around presentation.

Photographers who love books and the idea of book-making in its many physical forms.

Lunch is not included

BIOGRAPHIES

Michelle Dunn Marsh is the founder of Minor Matters Books. She has worked in non-profit and commercial art book publishing for twenty years. She holds an MS in Publishing from Pace University in New York City, and a bachelor’s degree in literature/art history from Bard College.

Daniel Milnor’s day job is as “Creative Evangelist,” for Blurb Inc., the world’s premiere indie publishing platform.  A compulsive journal-keeper, he believes in the power of print, taking one’s time, slowing down, reading paper books, casting off the shackles of social media and talking to one’s neighbors if you really want to know what is going on in the world. Dan, a talented old-school Leica-wielding silver photographer, is expert at making books, having created a non-stop stream of close to 100 individual artist’s books and magazines. He is totally conversant in the many ways photographers can exploit both hand made and machine made books, complete with audio-visual files (rich media). He dreams of downsizing, writing something memorable and living somewhere in Latin America.
