Chancellor Caret Statement on Supreme Court Travel Ban Decision

Adelphi, Md. (June 27, 2018) Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision upholding the Trump Administration’s travel ban, University System of Maryland (USM) Chancellor Robert Caret issued the following statement.

“The University System of Maryland is committed to recruiting, welcoming and including talented students and scholars from across the state, the nation and the globe, regardless of background or place of origin.  In an increasingly interconnected world, we have a greater obligation than ever to arm our graduates with an ability to live and work with people from all walks of life. Fostering diversity and inclusion in our classrooms and laboratories is both an end unto itself, as well as a critical part of expanding our excellence in both education and research.

“Both Maryland and the United States have long benefited from the many positive contributions made by international students and scholars.  We must ensure they continue to contribute to our universities, communities and economy.”
