Volunteering

We offer ways for parishioners to engage in our community as a way to live into the promise in our Baptismal Covenant, "to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves." (Book of Common Prayer, p. 304) The Mission & Outreach Committee's community engagement team is integral to this effort. Contact Rev. Serena here if you have any questions.

Room in the Inn

St. B’s volunteers host 12 carefully screened guests that are homeless every Saturday evening through early Sunday morning from November 4 through March 31.  Various helpers are needed to:

  • Team up with other volunteers to purchase and prepare a hot dinner plus sack lunches for Sunday
  • Host the guests overnight by sleeping at St. B’s. Hosts usually drive the church vans to and from the Campus for Human Development downtown to pick up and take back our guests.
  • Provide breakfast foods (grab and go foods such as granola bar/fruit/juice in a paper bag) for the overnight hosts to serve (do not have to be present to serve)
  • Do 3 - 4 loads of laundry (St. B's linens and towels) each week.

Volunteers may choose to help with one or all of these tasks.  Males and females are equally encouraged to volunteer with each of the tasks. Families are invited to sign up together as well.

Refugee Response Teams

We are grateful to the many parishioners who signed up to volunteer with Siloam Health through their Nashville Neighbors program. We have three (3) teams of individuals and families who have been trained and are providing health information and building relationships with newly arrived Afghan refugees. Contact Doug Heimburger for more information.

St. Luke's Pantry

We provide items for the St. Luke's Pantry each month. St Luke's Community House creates a community where children, families, and seniors from different backgrounds can easily access the resources needed to live fulfilling lives.

They are always in need of;  Diapers (all sizes welcome but children’s sizes 3, 4, 5, & 6 are our most urgent need), Non-perishable food, Hygiene products (toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, deodorant, lotion etc.) Feminine hygiene products, Household cleaning supplies (detergent, cleaners, bleach, etc.), Baby formul, Pet food. You can also donate through their AMAZON or TARGET wish list. Please leave collections for St. Luke's food pantry in the cabinet beside the doors to the gym.

St. Luke's especially needs at this time diapers for babies and children and diaper wipes.

Thistle Farms Graduation

Thistle Farm's Graduation, formerly called Magdalene Graduation, is held each May, with a parade down the back street behind Thistle Farms and graduation on the back balcony of the cafe. St. B's creates the gift baskets for the graduates each year.  Graduation spring 2022 has already occurred. You can find more information about Thistle Farms here.
