Tulane simulation center director honored by International Society of Simulation in Healthcare

Jennifer Calzada, MA, MPH, Director of Advanced Medical Simulation at Tulane University School of Medicine, was awarded one of six Presidential Citations last month at the 23rd annual meeting of the  International Society of Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH). The Society is the largest healthcare simulation association in the world with over 5,000 members and over 4,000 conference attendees annually. Calzada is both a Director-At-Large on the governing Board of Directors and the Chair for the 2023 campaign and the launch of the SSH Fund, a new philanthropic arm of the non-profit Society.

Society President Haru Okuda awarded Calzada the Presidential Citation for her efforts to create and launch the SSH Fund. In announcing the award, Okuda recognized Calzada for “her tremendous leadership, determination, and expertise to lead the SSH Development Task Force to launch the SSH Giving Campaign in order to advance simulation-based research and technology in training.”

The launch of the Fund raised $45,000 in pledges during the four-day meeting and will continue throughout the year to secure pledges to meet the $200,000 goal for year one. The SSH Fund will annually raise funds to support transformational healthcare simulation research, technology innovation, and needs-based scholarships for members from low resources regions and countries.
