2023 season

The 20th Anniversary Season concluded on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

“Good shepherd,

tell this youth what ‘tis to Love…”

As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle's court, accompanied by her cousin Celia to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, some who are there by choice, some by misfortune. All of them discover a personal truth which allows them to get on a path of happiness. In the end, tyrants find reconciliation (not cancellation) showing that communities are always interconnected and that a better story is possible than the one we may currently be experiencing.

Directed by long-time company member, Tarah Flanagan, this production shines a hopeful light on life’s struggles.

im·bro·glio /imˈbrōlyō/

(noun) an extremely confused or complicated situation

Imbroglio witnesses two couples, best friends, living next door to each other, trying to navigate friendship and marriage. However, when Herman finds himself in more trouble than he can handle, boundaries are crossed, and allegiances are formed. While some aid and abet, others ignore and deny. What are our obligations to others? How does one help someone who doesn’t want to be helped? Is it even possible to help someone who doesn’t know they need it?

Co-associate Artistic Director Melissa Maxwell directs the world premiere of her new work which is generously sponsored by an anonymous gift in honor of John & Janet and by Char & Bill Carlson.

do awake your faith”

Leontes, King of Sicilia, is stuck in the false belief that his wife, Hermione, is unfaithful to him. Trusted advisors and friends cannot change him; evidence to the contrary does not move him. What are the consequences of getting stuck? And what does it take to find grace and restore community?

Part of the inaugural season of the Great River Shakespeare Festival, The Winter’s Tale makes a triumphant return to the GRSF stage directed by Artistic Director Doug Scholz-Carlson.
