KALAMAZOO, Mich. — March is Reading Month, a celebration that not only encourages reading for all ages, but promotes reading as essential for learning, social and professional development, according to Miami University.
To celebrate, West Michigan is slated to hold Reading Month events throughout March.

Throughout March - Book Collection
The Barry County United Way & Volunteer Center is hosting its third book collection event through the month of March.
New or very gently used books, from infant board books through high school age, can be dropped off at their office located at 231 S. Broadway in Hastings weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The books will benefit two local organizations, the Barry County Great Start Collaborative and Hastings Public Library.

March 9 - March is Reading Month: Meet Pete the Cat at Cass District Library Mason - Union Branch
Fans of Pete the Cat have the chance to meet the main character atCass District Library Mason - Union Branch.
Starting at 10 a.m., guests can stop by to take part in a story, fun activities, games and more.

March 14 - March is Reading Month: Family Night Personalized Book Bags at Edwardsburg Library
Readers looking for something new to carry around their books can stop by Edwardsburg Library on March 14.
From 5:30-6:30 p.m., guests can customize their very own library book bag with a crayon transfer technique.

March 28 - March is Reading Month: Family Blanket Forts at Cass District Library
Celebrate Reading Month by getting cozy with your family!
Starting at 6 p.m. on March 28, guests can stop by Cass District Library to create the ultimate blanket fort.
Games, snacks and activities will be provided.
