We have always known Jay Z to be one of the dopest lyricists ever – but in recent years the 47-year-old icon has become a legitimate mogul in the sports and entertainment industry, a major cultural influencer, and a political force to be reckoned with. Hov is the big homie/triple O.G. of the game, and according to Billboard, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has plans to officially acknowledge him as such.

In honor of his contributions both inside and outside of the studio, Jay Z is set to receive the Salute to Industry Icons Award at the 2018 pre-Grammy's Gala. “His contributions as an industry trailblazer and music visionary only begin to touch on the tremendous impact he’s made both in entertainment and beyond," Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy, said in a statement on Tuesday.

And, it's only fitting that the acknowledgment coincides with the Grammys epic return to New York City. "JAY-Z embodies the vibrant spirit of New York City and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree as we return to Manhattan for this year’s Grammy Awards," Portnow said.

With a record 21 Grammys already under his belt, we're sure Rumi and Sir will welcome the newest addition to their gold sippy cup collection.
