Inclusive Engagement Program

The Inclusive Engagement Program (IEP) is the revamped Diversity Passport Program with you in mind!

The purpose of the IEP is to Intentionally increase engagement with nuanced aspects of culture, worldviews, inclusion, and social justice; Provide a safe avenue for experiential learning via multi-media, short readings, stimulating interactions and productive dialogue; Ensure participation from a wide audience by being flexible and mostly asynchronous (at your own pace!); Advocate for self-discovery and/or the use of a range of resources in expanding your understanding of intersectional ideas regarding diverse aspects of the human experience.

Program Details

The IEP is a 30-day long program which will run from September 1-30th annually and open to all UTHSC employees, students, and trainees. While participants can go at their own pace, there will be a suggested schedule, and each week will have a theme aligned with the materials suggested for that week.

While not required, there will be 4 debrief sessions each Friday at noon (accessible in-person and virtual). Additionally, twice a week participants will be prompted to engage in a virtual (written) discussion about a specific topic with their peers and the project coordinator to foster open discussion and share diverse thoughts and perspectives about social situations.

Participants will interface with videos, short films, podcasts, music, articles, chapters, quotes, food, awareness tests, simulations, and more! Accepted participants must complete a pre- and post-assessment to gauge their awareness of the applicable topics before and after actively participating in the program.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion signed by OAC’s very own, associate vice chancellor, Dr. Michael Alston.

The IEP application cycle occurs in August.
