Q: How long have you been in banking, and will you share a little insight with us about how you became a career banker?
My banking career began during college in 1985 as a part-time teller. I had no intention of making it a long-term career. It was just a way to earn some additional income. But, banking is infectious and gets in your blood. At some point, I realized that I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Q: What are some leadership lessons you learned early on that you still use today?
To let go. The more responsibility I took on, I had to learn to become a better delegator and to resist trying to do everything myself. Also, never stop learning. I believe in life-long learning and that we should continue to invest in ourselves by improving our skills and knowledge.

Q: Who gets the most credit for driving you to succeed and grow as an individual? From the beginning until now; who has made the biggest impact?
While I have had several tremendous mentors and influencers in my career, no one had more impact on me than my mother. She had a successful 30-plus-year career working for the U.S. Government. I watched her advance and strive to obtain her career goals without wavering, all while caring for our family. She encouraged me to stay focused on my goals and instilled a solid work ethic. I will forever be grateful for the example she set.

Q: What are some reasons your fellow female bankers should attend GBA’s Women in Banking Conference Feb. 9-10?
I value the opportunity to network with other professional women and discuss similar challenges and solutions. The speakers and panelists are exciting and knowledgeable, and I leave energized and informed. It is definitely time well spent!

Q: When you’re not on the job fulfilling your First Landmark Bank or GBA duties, what do you like to do?
My family and friends are everything to me. I love to share traveling, shopping, cooking and SEC football with them (Go, Vols!). I relax listening to a variety of great music and am particularly fond of classic rock.
