The amazing story of Joan of Arc comes to life in an original ballet performance

GO! Contemporary Dance Works presents Jehanne the Story of Joan of Arc at the Bijou Theatre

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — She was born in a small village in France in the 15th century. Joan of Arc led the French Army to victory over the English in an important battle. Then she was burned at the stake when she was 19.

She was later canonized as a Catholic saint. Her short yet vivid life is the focus of a performance at the Bijou Theatre this weekend.

GO! Contemporary Dance Works concludes its season with Jehanne the Story of Joan of Arc. (Jehanne is the 15th-century spelling of Joan)

The contemporary ballet features more than 60 dancers, five choreographers, and an expansive creative team. It captures the intensity, conflict, and resolve of the medieval teenager who was both maiden and warrior during a time of spiritual and political upheaval.

Dr. Anne-Helene Miller is an Assistant Professor of French Medieval Culture and Literature at the University of Tennessee. She collaborated with Artistic Director Lisa Hall McKee on the project to bring the authentic story to the stage.
