Join the Summer Reads Book Club

Book Club

Learning and Organizational Development will host Summer Reads With University Human Resources, a virtual book club for NC State staff and faculty.

The book club will meet via Zoom on the following dates:

  • June 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to talk about Training Camp by Jon Gordon. In Training Camp, Gordon tells a fictional story that offers lessons on how to bring out the best in you and your team.
  • July 29 from 11 a.m. to noon to discuss The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker. The goal of Parker’s book is to help readers create meaningful and memorable experiences for all types of gatherings, from office meetings to backyard barbecues.
  •  Aug. 31 from 2 to 3 p.m. to talk about Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. Four Thousand Weeks is a practical guide for time management.

L&OD, a unit within UHR, provides professional development opportunities for NC State employees. The book club is an informal learning opportunity and a chance for people to meet staff and faculty throughout the university, said Kevin Rice, director of L&OD.

“We hope to create some networking opportunities for the participants, and we hope they learn some best practices that will help them professionally or personally,” he said.

To participate in the book club, you’ll need to register, read the books and be ready to participate in small group discussions when the club meets. More information about the books is on the registration page. So far, more than 60 people have signed up for the three book club sessions.

Editor’s note: The information contained in the books represents the views and opinions of the authors and does not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the L&OD or UHR.
