Father Acrea started at the all-boys Dowling High School in 1962 where he taught English and Theology. He remembers the day he packed up his classroom at the old Dowling High School, put it in his car, and drove it to the “new” Dowling Catholic High School. It has been more than 60 years since Father John Acrea was ordained into priesthood. During that time he has served as a teacher, a coach, a vocations director and in parish ministry. In retirement he serves as the spiritual director at Dowling Catholic High School, working alongside Father Reed Flood ‘13, Father James Downey ‘11 and the Campus Ministry team to help students become Leaders for Life, Centered on Christ. ...more
