Aronld Boone County chapter member

Boone County

The Boone County chapter is mourning the loss of one of its dearly beloved members, Arnold, who passed away on July 1.  If you knew him, please keep his family in your thoughts, as they were very close to him.   Please watch your e-mails for an online memorial event.

St. Joe

Partners in Policymaking

Two members from our chapter are attending three sessions per month of Partners in Policymaking.  They have been learning about Charting the LifeCourse. Making a trajectory for a vision of what they want for their life versus what they do not want.  They have also learned about the integrated support star which is great for goal setting, project planning, and strategic planning.  The star shows relationships, resources, technical supports, and eligibility programs.  They also learned about Family Perspective Planning and Leadership and Advocacy.

In June’s session, members learned about Housing, Employment, and MO Able Accounts.  Presenters: Missouri Treasurer - Scott Fitzpatrick, Wayne Crawford - Missouri Housing, David Mank - Professor of Indiana   University, and Ann Graff - Center for Human Services, Ann Graff discussed the transition from the sheltered workshop to competitive employment.

SABE Go Voter Distance Learning Project
Two members have been working with the People First SABE Representative and with Missouri Protection and Advocacy Attorneys on the SABE Go Voter Project.  Members will participate in live webinars and learn about increasing the disability vote.  Our team will be providing a presentation to Community Rehabilitation and Re-Socialization (CRR) in two sessions and People First of Missouri in two sessions.

In-Person Meetings

People First of St. Joseph has been having our meetings virtually over the past year due to COVID 19.  MERIL has worked with our group to establish Zoom Links for members to call in or a computer device to access virtually for our meeting.  Our group was able to have their first meeting in person in March 2020.  It was wonderful to see everyone again.  We made sure to establish procedures for everyone to wear a mask, temperature readings, sanitize hands, and social distance.  President, Chris Fagan presented training on “Vision for A Good Life.  What you want for your life and What you don’t want.”

Fundraisers
Members are collecting Best Choice Labels for our Fundraiser ending in December 2021.  Last year, we collected 1,000 labels.  Our members will work with the grocery stores to collaborate to save labels for our group.

Project Stir

People First of St. Joseph will collaborate with People First of Maryville to complete Project Stir training. Maryville Advisor, Lauren Lynch is a trained Facilitator,

Stuff the Bus

People First of St. Joseph will make a donation to assist with “Stuff the Bus” which gives school-aged children school supplies for starting back to school.
