I am pleased to inform you that Andrew Hippisley, who has served in top administrative positions at the University of Kentucky and most recently at Wichita State University, will join The University of Texas at Arlington as vice provost of academic affairs beginning July 3.
Dr. Hippisley currently serves as dean of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wichita State, where he also is a professor of linguistics in the English Department. Since arriving at Wichita State in 2018, he has helped launch innovative programs critical to his university’s workforce-development efforts, including bachelor’s programs in applied linguistics and American Sign Language, a master’s program in mathematical data science, certificate programs in space sciences and environmental studies, and more.

He is an advocate for student success, having developed a college-wide recruitment and retention plan and established articulation agreements with numerous community colleges across multiple disciplines. He also worked with the University of Kansas School of Law and the Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine to launch accelerated degrees in law and medicine.

He is a strong proponent of research and innovation through professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, targeted hiring to bolster research, and new workload policies that encourage highly intensive research.
- As dean, he also focused on alumni and community engagement through fundraising visits, effective communication with college alumni, and industry partnerships.

A fellow of both the American Council on Education and the Linguistic Society of America, Dr. Hippisley previously served as chair and professor of linguistics at the University of Kentucky, where he was on faculty from 2007-18. Earlier in his career, he was an associate lecturer at Cambridge University and was both a research fellow and lecturer at Surrey University. He holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Surrey and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Russian language and literature from University College London.
