Utica City FC’s Gordy Gurson earned an honor from the Major Arena Soccer League.
Arguably the team’s best player and among the MASL statistical leaders in his first season with Utica, Gurson was one of three forwards named to the league’s all-second team. The league announced its awards Monday evening.
In 22 regular-season games with Utica, the 30-year-old Gurson finished with team-bests in goals (22), assists (19) and points (41). It is the fourth time the veteran forward has eclipsed the 40-point mark.
He also had seven game-winning goals for Utica, which is a single-season team record and the most in his career. He has 23 total game-winning goals in 171 MASL games. His games played are fifth-most on the league’s career list.
His total points this season were tied for fifth-most in the 14-team league while his assist total was tied for seventh-most.
Under new coach Hewerton Moreira, Utica’s season ended with a 13-10-1 record in the regular-season before earning an Eastern Conference play-in win over Kansas City and falling against Milwaukee in three games in the conference semifinals.
