Mohamed Aboelnour
Dr. Mohamed Aboelnour received his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University. His expertise is in hydrologic modeling, specifically groundwater modeling. During his Ph.D. he has been involved in different hydrological modeling studies, including the impact of land-use change and climate variation on groundwater and surface water. Dr. Aboelnour expanded his research on groundwater, and recently, he was able to develop a model to predict groundwater using watersheds’ physical properties on a regional scale to enhance groundwater and baseflow prediction for ungauged sites. Dr. Aboelnour is an expert in using the Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and satellite data. He has been using these tools to improve predictive capabilities and better understand environmental changes as it relates to water resources. During his free time, Mohamed enjoys being with his family and his daughter, running, and playing lots of soccer.
Dr. Aboelnour joined ND-ECI in February 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and will be working under the mentorship of Dr. Diogo Bolster and Dr. Jennifer Tank on several projects related to groundwater-surface water interaction at the rural-urban interface. These projects relate broadly to water quality and sustainability issues that arise in communities at these interfaces, where housing density, unusual property development practices, and past land-use legacies, can result in unique water contamination problems that cannot always be addressed by traditional means.
