Characters and Crafts with Theater Mu
Meet us at the library! This month, we’ll be exploring the world of theater behind the curtains with our favorite artists. In this class for little learners (geared to ages 2-5), we'll work on building big characters and creating props for them to play with out of Model Magic clay.

+ Kumihimo - Japanese Braiding
Kumihimo was born a long time ago in Japan and was used for horse harnesses, helmet decor, and more. Today, it is used for everyday accessories and decorations. There are many different kinds of Kumihimo braids, and Chiaki O’Brien is excited to teach you one type using four strands of yarn. Let's have fun working with our hands!
+ Meo(w): Learn to Count in vietnamese
Speaking Vietnamese is like singing a song. Learn how to count in Vietnamese with Puppet Denise as she sings to her sleepy kittens. See how many kittens can nap together in one little hammock! Led by Đenise Hạnh Huỳnh with MK Nguyen and Oanh Vu.
+ Scrapbook Costume Design
Ever wonder how costume ideas are created and put on stage? Join Sheena Janson Kelley for an interactive and creative crafting project to design your own costume for a show. Build a costume design using paper and fabric found around your home. The best part? There are no rules! Inspiration for your designs can be found everywhere -- like your favorite movie or even your pet. So let's tap into our creative side and become a costume designer for a day!
+ Spring into Movement
Spring is here and it’s time to get our bodies moving! You and the whole family are invited to join Eric online to play funny theater games, learn silly tongue twisters, and master crazy stretches to engage your body, your voice, and your imagination. Explore the tools actors use on stage and laugh a lot along the way.
+ Bring a Story to Life
How do we transform a favorite story from words on a page into a live performance? Join Morgen Chang and Suzie Juul as we use the elements of theater to retell an epic adventure tale of a Chinese hero. Families will learn to make props and engage in expressive character movements to accompany a reading of the book, Seven Magic Orders, as published by and courtesy of Island Heritage.
+ The Secret Sauce to Survival - A Puppet Show & Workshop
Being indoors is hard! Puppet Denise and Puppet Oanh are at their wits end trying to make spring rolls with their families. Come along as they learn the secret sauce to survival! Just a dash of hoisin and a big spoonful of slowness. Led by Denise Hanh Huynh and Oanh Vu, learn Vietnamese phrases, sing out your feelings, and make a hand puppet of your very own! + Kitchen Stories: Let's Make Jumokbap!
What do cooking and theater have in common? Join Mu artist Sara Ochs to find out! Together we'll make a fun and easy Korean snack the whole family will enjoy - Jumokbap 주먹밥, Korean Rice Balls. We'll wash our hands, get messy, wash our hands again, and trade family stories. Bring your imagination and be ready to experiment!
