Logger football falls to No. 9 Linfield

TACOMA, Wash. – The Loggers took to the field ready to play on Saturday against the nationally ranked Linfield Wildcats. Puget Sound got its offense going early, producing a total of 149 offensive yards in the first quarter while holding Linfield to just 57 yards. Coming off of the Wildcats first touchdown at the eight-minute mark, Logger quarterback Mason Binning finished off a drive that started from the Puget Sound 11-yard line, with a 55-yard pass play to Izaiah Jerenz for the touchdown to tie the game at 6-6.

Linfield's strength came alive in the second quarter with four touchdowns. The Wildcats defense created problems for the Loggers, with Puget Sound unable to duplicate its offensive momentum from the first quarter. At halftime, the Wildcats ran into the locker room with a 34-6 lead.

In the third quarter, the Loggers put together several controlled drives, but were unable to find the endzone. On their first possession,  Puget Sound went for it on 4th and 1 in Linfield's territory, but the Wildcats stopped the Loggers' run play short of the first down. On their next possession, the Loggers relied on a series of short passes to get within striking distance at the Linfield 15-yard line. However, on 4th down with 5 yards to go, Binning's pass was broken up to end the drive. Linfield's two touchdowns in the third quarter had the game heading to the fourth quarter with a score of 48-6.

With only a total of five combined first downs in the fourth quarter, the game ended with a final score of Puget Sound 6, Linfield 55.  Logger's running back Henry Hernandez had 10 carries on the day for 64 yards, and receiver Jerenz gained 110 yards on 15 receptions.

The Loggers move to a record of 2-4 overall, and 1-3 in Northwest Conference play. They will be back on the road next Saturday, Oct. 28 when they travel down to play Willamette.
