Wing Open Championships to be Revitalized for 2023

1/25/2023 2:00:00 PM | Boxing

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The 2023 Wing Open Boxing Championships will receive more fanfare than ever before this year, as Air Force Athletics looks to put additional resources behind the storied event. Promotions, improved concession choices, and VIP seating options will headline the efforts.

Annually one of the most anticipated events on the Academy calendar, the Wing Open Championships will be held under the lights of Clune Arena at 7:00 p.m. (MT) on Thursday, March 2.

As part of this revitalization, public attending the Wing Open Championship will require a ticket for entry. This change from a charity event to a ticketed event will allow more funds to support the Air Force Athletics boxing program.

Tickets will start at $8 for military and groups of 10+, with $10 seats available in Zone 2 and $15 seats in Zone 1. Cadets will still be able to enter free of charge. VIP tables, which will include floor seating and access to a pre-event reception, will be sold for $500. Tickets can be purchased online at AFtickets.com or by calling the ticket office at 719-472-1895. For VIP tables, please contact the Falcon Athletic Fund at giving@airforceathletics.org for more information.

The Wing Open Championships have historically been a standing room only event and the goal of this initiative is to get back to those days. Since 1958, cadets from every squadron have been eligible to compete in intersquad competition with an opportunity to be crowned Wing Open champion and form the nucleus of the team that will represent the Academy at the National Collegiate Boxing Association Championships later this spring.

The event will also be streamed live on GoAirForceFalcons.com and the Mountain West app.

With boxing being a coed sport, the Wing Open Championship will be part of the spring 2023 USAA Empower Her series, dedicated to promoting and supporting women's athletics at the Air Force Academy. USAA's Empower Her series is the first Air Force Athletics corporate partnership solely focused on promoting and supporting female cadet-athletes.

If you are unable to attend the event, you can still support the boxing team by contributing to their Falcon Athletic Fund account at FalconAthleticFund.com.
