February is Black History Month, and we’ll be sharing some amazing accomplishments and stories ahead looking at different generations of grads throughout the Academy’s history. Today we look even further back in aviation heritage to the Tuskegee Airmen. A memorial statue sits just outside Harmon Hall on the Air Force Academy's Honor Court with a plaque that reads, "they rose from adversity through competence, courage, commitment, and a capacity to serve America on silver wings, and to set a standard few will transcend." #USAFA #BlackHistoryMonth Watch the Heritage Minute video on the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Statue: https://lnkd.in/gbTQUNBW Documentary video tribute to the courageous Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, narrated by Morgan Freeman: https://lnkd.in/gMStatgb Features from the Department of Defense spotlight on Black History Month: https://lnkd.in/dDWXVqBe Historic black service members who have set the standard from the Way of Life Committee Cadet Club: https://lnkd.in/gRwXqrcs

In 1973, American POWs — 33 of them U.S. Air Force Academy graduates — came home after years in Vietnamese prison camps. Hear one nurse’s personal account of those events. Then-Lt. Penny Grossman cared for some of those former prisoners while stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. She has not shared these stories with anyone outside of her immediate family in 50 years. This special presentation of "Heritage Minute" is narrated by guest-host, George Hayward, author of The Party Dolls: The True, Tragic Story of Two Americans' Attempted Escape from a 1969 Hanoi POW Camp. He is a recognized authority on the history of Americans held captive during the Vietnam war, and the horrors they faced. 🎧 𝙇𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙉𝙤𝙬! https://bit.ly/4bmH7Q6 🎙️ 𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙤𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩! https://bit.ly/3wIqYFr #HeritageMinuteSpecial #podcast
